    Q: Does Western sell direct?

A: No, Western products can be purchased through our wholesalers and distributors.  Western will also sell direct to original equipment manufacturers.

    go

Q: How can I find a distributor of Western Products?

A: You can find your nearest distributor by going to www.gawda.org.  The front page displays a distributor search tool.   Enter your zip code and your travel radius in miles and your nearest distributors will be displayed.

    go

    Q: What are CGA numbers?

A: Compressed Gas Association (CGA) numbers are an identification system for inlet and outlet connections used on various products.

    go

    Q: What is a BAR?

A: BAR is the British unit of pressure measurement similar to PSIG (Pounds per Square Inch Gauge). See pages 6 and 7 of our Industrial Equipment Catalog for a conversion chart. 1 BAR = 14.5 psig

    go

Q: What is a kPa (Kilopascals)?

A: Kilopascals are the metric unit of pressure measurement similar to PSIG.   See pages 6 and 7 of our Industrial Equipment Catalog for a conversion chart.  1kPa = .145 psig

    FITTINGS

    Q: Can I order a washer for CGA 240?

A: No, it is not available.  The latest version of CGA V-1 (Standard for Compressed Gas Cylinder Valve Outlet and Inlet Connections) which defines the CGA 240 connection requirements does not require it.

    go

Q: Do you have a plug for a CGA 580?

A: We have a male plug, but do not have a female cap.  An adapter will be needed  in order to cap a male CGA 580 connection.

See page 24 and 45 of our Industrial Equipment Catalog for a listing of available pressure tight caps & plugs.

    FLASHBACK ARRESTORS

Q: Can flashback arrestors be used with hydrogen?

A: Only in low pressure applications (up to 22 psi) in the FA-10 and FA-30 arrestors.

Hydrogen cannot be used with the FA-2 and FA-3 style arrestors due to pressure limitations of the devices.

    go

Q: How do I know when a flashback occurs?

A: A popping noise can usually be heard when a flashback occurs.  Due to ambient noise levels, it may not be possible to hear when a flashback has occurred, so this method of determining whether a flashback has occurred should not be relied upon.  The instructions provided with the flash arrestors inform the user about how to determine if the flashback arrestors are still suitable for service.

    go

Q: How long will a flashback arrestor last?

A: This is variable and dependent on the number and intensity of the flashbacks.   There is a carbon build up after each flashback and arrestors cannot be cleaned or refilled.   They must be replaced if the pressure drop through the arrestor exceeds the values listed in the instructions.

    go

Q: What is the significance of the green and red bands on the arrestors?

A: The color bands identify the gas service of the flash arrestor – oxygen (green), fuel gas (red).

    HOSES

Q: What size ferrule should I order?

A: The size of the ferrule you purchase is typically selected based on the outside diameter of the hose (see page 20 & 21 of the Industrial Equipment Catalog).  It should also be noted that making a proper connection is dependent on several factors including hose type (light duty, heavy duty, etc.), hose grade (e.g. grade T), hose material, hose outside diameter, hose inside diameter, barb style (straight, spiral, etc), barb outside diameter and length.  Since a good connection is dependent on so many variables, it is important to leak test assemblies prior to putting them into service.

    go

Q: What is the outlet pressure of the REF series flowmeter?

A: The regulator reduces the cylinder pressure to 50 psig, which feeds the flowmeter.  The pressure downstream of the flowmeter will drop to around 5 psig when flowing.  When there is no flow, the pressure at the outlet of the flowmeter will build back up to 50 psig.

    A: AW-432B

    go

Q: What is the outlet pressure of the RFS series flowmeter regulator?

A: The regulator reduces the cylinder pressure to 50 psig, which feeds the flowmeter. The pressure downstream of the flowmeter will drop to around 5 psig when flowing. When there is no flow, the pressure at the outlet of the flowmeter will build back up to 50 psig.

    go

Q: What size are the ports on the body on the RWS flowmeter series?

A: Inlet port: 1/8 NPT female
