High Purity Regulators Overview
Introduction to Western's Gas Handling Equipment:

Western Enterprises Spec-Pure gas equipment catalog contains a myriad of components necessary for the proper handling of specialty gases. All of the items offered in this greatly expanded equipment line are of the highest quality and state of the art. The expanded use of specialty gases, and even higher levels of purity being demanded, has created a need for increasingly sophisticated delivery systems of the highest quality and integrity. Stringent quality control in our equipment line is a vital part of our operation to insure that our customers receive products of uncompromising quality.

INDUSTRY STANDARDS

Western regulators and manifolds meet or exceed the following industry standards:
  • Compressed Gas Association, Pamphlets V-1, E-1, E-4 and G-1.
  • All manifold power supplies are CSA approved.
  • O.S.H.A. CFR29 1910.102 and 1910.253
HELIUM LEAK TEST CERTIFICATION

Western high purity series regulators are designed to meet an inboard helium leak test of 2 x 10-9 scc/sec. Western high purity series manifolds are designed to meet an inboard helium leak test of 2 x 10-6 scc/sec. HBAC2 and HSAC series manifolds are shipped with helium leak test certification. To obtain certification for other Western high purity products simply specify this requirement on your order. (See current price list for current cost information).

WARRANTY

All Western manifold and regulators are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for the period of one year from date of shipment (90 days in corrosive service), on the condition that it is used according to our recommendations and not abused, modified or otherwise tampered with by the user. This warranty is limited to repair or replacement at seller’s option.

NOTE: If any questions should arise as to the safety or application for Western Enterprises’ products, our engineering department will evaluate the requirements and make recommendations based on any known regulatory information. User/installer is responsible for insuring installation has been done in accordance with local codes.

HOW TO ORDER

Selecting the correct regulator to suit your laboratory application is critical. Your choice should be based on the following criteria:

Material Compatibility: Materials used to construct the regulator need to be compatible with the intended gas service. All the wetted areas ( parts of the regulator in contact with the gas) must be selected to avoid any reaction with the gas that can cause contamination in the gas stream or deterioration of the regulator components.

Diffusion Resistance: Although a gas may be compatible with i.e. - an elastomer, the elastomer may not be the best choice for the application. As a general rule, in applications where slight amounts of moisture, air or hydrocarbons will not create adverse affects, general purpose regulators may be used, otherwise, regulator models with stainless steel diaphragms and diffusion resistant elastomers, seals, lubricants and accessories should be chosen.

Precision: How critical is a precise delivery pressure to your applications? Applications requiring precise inlet pressure with changes less than + 2 psig require a two stage regulator. Applications not affected by inlet pressures varying up to + 20 psig may utilize a single stage regulator.

Inlet Pressure: regulators are designed for specific inlet pressures. Using a lower pressure rated regulator in a higher pressure service may cause personal injury or death. Western regulators are offered for the most common inlet pressure up to: 400 psig, 3,000 psig and 6,000 psig.

Delivery Pressure: Ideally, the outlet , delivery or “line” pressure setting of a regulator should be approximately the middle of its adjustment range. For example: an application requiring 40 psig should utilize a regulator with a delivery pressure range of 0 - 80 psig. Western regulators are available in a variety of common delivery pressure ranges to meet your needs.

Accessories: Western regulators have modular part numbers which allow you to choose the options you require. Examples of some option choices are: outlet valves, purge assemblies, relief valves and certificates of helium leak test rate.
